 सामान्य लक्षण

यह स्थिति आमतौर से सभी  आयु के व्यक्तियों में पाई जाती है और स्त्रियों की अपेक्षा पुरूषों में चार गुना अधिक पाई जाती है। बच्चों और वृद्धों में मूत्राशय की पथरी ज्यादा बनती है, जबकि वयस्को में अधिकतर गुर्दो और मूत्रवाहक नली में पथरी बन जाती है। आज भारत के प्रत्येक 2000 परिवारों में से एक परिवार इस पीड़ादायक स्थिति से पीड़ित है,

लेकिन सबसे दु:खद बात यह है कि इनमें से कुछ प्रतिशत रोगी ही इसका इलाज करवाते हैं।

  जिन मरीजों को मधुमेह की बीमारी है उन्हें गुर्दे की बीमारी होने की काफी संभावनाएं रहती हैं। अगर किसी मरीज को रक्तचाप की बीमारी है तो उसे नियमित दवा से रक्तचाप को नियंत्रण करने पर ध्यान देना चाहिए क्योंकि अगर रक्तचाप बढ़ता है, तो भी गुर्दे खराब हो सकते हैं।

पथरी के प्रकार और निदान और  उपाय 

• सबसे आम पथरी कैल्शियम पथरी है। पुरुषों में, महिलाओं की तुलना में दो से तीन गुणा ज्यादा होती है। सामान्यतः 20 से 30 आयु वर्ग के पुरुष इससे प्रभावित होते है। कैल्शियम अन्य पदार्थों जैसे आक्सलेट(सबसे सामान्य पदार्थ) फास्फेट या कार्बोनेट से मिलकर पथरी का निर्माण करते है। आक्सलेट कुछ खाद्य पदार्थों में विद्यमान रहता है।
• पुरुषों में यूरिक एसिड पथरी भी सामान्यतः पाई जाती है। किस्टिनूरिया वाले व्यक्तियों में किस्टाइन पथरी निर्मित होती है। महिला और पुरुष दोनों में यह वंशानुगत हो सकता है।
• मूत्रमार्ग में होने वाले संक्रमण की वजह से स्ट्रवाइट पथरी होती है जो आमतौर पर महिलाओं में पायी जाती है। स्ट्रवाइट पथरी बढ़कर गुर्दे, मूत्रवाहिनी या मूत्राशय को अवरुद्ध कर सकती है
• संपूर्ण चिकित्सा जांच, एक्सरे-सोनोग्राफी, अल्ट्रासाउंड परीक्षणों से गुर्दे की पथरियों का रोग-निदान किया जाता
